President

& Chairman

Nick Ogden

Nick played 1st XI at school and then a variety of wandering and league cricket. He decided in 1979, along with Rob Stewart and Rob Howie, to form the 'Moose'. This was to play a somewhat more 'gung ho' form of the game, which is often expressed in the graceful wielding of his willow!

Vice President
(Overseas Member)

Gavin Breeze
(Jersey)

An all rounder of some repute both on and off the field, Gavin is a proficient middle order batsman who appears to need little or no practise. A once fearsome fast right armer, the same cannot be said about his bowling. Think Fred Titmuss.

Vice President
& Player

Jeremy Burke

Jeremy “Jem” Burke (aka Black Balls) is a stylish (and some say rather dashing) right handed batsman who joined the Moose as a young recruit back in 1986. Having had a taste of life with the Moose on tour (Paris ’87), he helped Nick Ogden organize the now infamous Moose tour to Jamaica in ’88. His only ton for the Moose was an unbeaten 173 in Menorca and he is constantly reminded by Nick that hundreds abroad don’t count.

Vice President
& Player

Rupert Harris

Now the elder statesman of the playing squad, RdM can still be found flummoxing batters with his slow left-armers, managing to hit most things between mid-on and cow corner and taking the odd blinder at a roaming position in the slip cordon. Moose captains try to restrain his maverick ways in vain and Rupe is occasionally partial to some celebratory claret.

Vice President, Treasurer
& Player

Andy James

Jame-O's gauntlets only seem to get bigger with every season, displaying speed of hand fleet of foot behind the sticks. Organiser and MC of the famous Moose Tour to Amsterdam in 2014, Andy is the most grateful receiver of local cultural relics.

Vice President
& Founder Member

Rob Stewart

Founder member and Club Captain, Rob Stewart was originally the youngest member of the side, and remained so for an alarmingly long time.

Originally a brisk right hand opening bowler, he has evolved into a very slow opening bowler. Parallels with Richard Hadlee in the latter part of his career have never been made by anyone other than him.

A hard-hitting tail ender, he has never built an innings in his life, despite opening the batting in recent years when he has been captain.

Despite being ridiculed for his lack of pace, he is still the scourge of crap batsmen on dodgy wickets throughout the south-east, has twice taken four wickets in five balls, and remains the leading wicket-taker for the club, principally it has to be said, through sheer longevity.

Club Captain

James Howie

The least punctual man you will come across, MCC playing member Howie has established a reputation for being late and bowling far too many overs. With his suspect bowling action he regularly tops the wickets column and weighs in with some large and speedy runs. James has captained Ardingly College 1st XI and played Sussex Premier League cricket for Eastbourne CC before obtaining promotion to the Moose ranks.

Secretary
& Player

Stuart Morten

Morts has established himself as a Moosey oxymoron, holding the power of a keen University of Oxford rugby player but when donning the pads and bat not showing the slightest hint of being able to hit a boundary. Stuart's energy in the field is something to behold and his calm demeanour is at times extremely amusing.

Fixture Secretary
& Player

Harry McGahan

Harry is never far away from the action and can regularly be heard justifying the tactics of his beloved Chelsea. The Moose's new-ball bowler of choice uses his bizarre action to his benefit and bowls a wonderfully full length. His batting is underrated in his honest opinion, perhaps not helped by the influence of Ardingly College teammate and baiter J Howie. His record speaks for itself however, captainging Lincoln College, Oxford, and representing Oxford University.

Social Secretary

Patrick Kearney

The boy from Rhodesia has joined through connections at Ardingly College and added some extra quality to the Moose side, actually owning the ability to bowl with a curious change of pace. He is a safe pair of hands anywhere but in the slips and is known to apply his farmer arms to dispatch opposition bowlers over the ropes.

Recruitment Secretary & Player

Tom Ogden

When not appearing for St Bede's The Dicker 1st XI, Tom will no doubt be running in for the Moose and creating partnerships with his slip fielders. A regular opening bowler, Tom continues to add a yard of pace a year and even improve his batting prowess - though the latter has ben long overdue.

Ed Atkinson
(Dubai)

A lantern jawed heart throb who first played for the Moose in 1986, and toured Paris on the inaugural, and almost victorious, Moose trip to SAC Meudon. A keen student of the game, Ed has modelled much of himself on Nick Ogden, the inspirational and clean living Moose founder, now 57.

With a bowling action to rival Dennis Lillie, and a cover drive to match David Gower, Ed has promised plenty, but delivered very little, despite being one of the very few to have notched up a Moose ton. Courted by Sussex CCC and others, Ed has remained faithful to Moose Cricket Club, and has been known to waver from the important maxim of No Kiff Before Victory.

  • Born 21/12/65

  • First man to spot Gavin Breeze's skid marks in Dorset

Player

Ed Bishop

A versatile cricketer - adept as wicket keeper or deep fielder, and a superbly stylish batsman, once prolific. Eddie is much in demand at the weekend from clubs up and down the country, some of them cricket clubs. Forearmed is forewarned.

Player

Adam Brawn

Adam 'John Parrot' Brawn's surname couldn't be more pertinent to his bowling style and general personality. Equipped with a heavy ball, Adam learnt everything he knows from Chris Jordan whilst playing for Dulwich College 1st XI and also hails from Eastbourne CC 1st XI and Surrey Schools. Adam was a key tourist on the 2014 Amsterdam Tour, charging in and bending his considerable back to get the most out of slow pitches.

Player

Dan Burke

The son of Black Balls himself, he has played Moose cricket for the last few years and is also a budding thespian. His bowling has become something to be feared of late after almost killing one of the Griffin's opening batsman with a beamer in last years fixture, he is also a very underestimated batsman.

Player

James Barry

Nicknamed ‘Fingers’, but not for his skills with the ball, Barry’s inconsistent bowling has been lethal in his few appearances for the Moose. Baffling opponents with long hops and double bouncers Barry picks up wickets and terrorise opposition, particularly, the McGahans. It is rumoured Barry likes to spend 900 dollars on hotel rooms.

Player

Jos Burnett

Words cannot describe the cricketing ability of Laser. The most striking feature is his boundary riding, utilising the multiple-bounce throw when returning to the keeper with as much ferocity as a tadpole. For some reason he has opened the bowling at times and showed inconsistent form in the middle order. Perhaps a perfect example of too many hours spent in the gym, not on the field. Jos is well respected in the Moose circles and really works outside of his comfort zone when meeting members of the opposite sex.

Rupert 'Paddy' Butler

R.J. ‘Paddy’ Butler is a very slow left-arm unorthodox bowler and occasional fielder. He is also an avid tourist having recently created an international record of 9 overseas cricket tours in a 21 month period having played in such cricketing hotspots as Zagreb, Vis, Ljubljana, Saumur, Porto, Santiago, Buenos Aires and at a sewage farm in Walvis Bay, Namibia. He met his latest wife in Argentina when he required consular assistance from the British Embassy and got a warmer reception from her Majesty’s representative than he had bargained for. Accordingly, those touring days have been abruptly halted.

Player

Samuel Collett

Sam has risen through the Moose ranks to become a regular member of the club. Part-time batsmen and specialist fielder, he adamantly claims to have been an untapped talent at Eastbourne College. When Sam judges the bowler to be slow enough he enjoys his batting. Rather like a night out on the town, Sam throws his bat at anything, occasionally, connecting with the target.

Player

Ed Gay

Ed bowls muscular medium, although can bowl quicker depending on how funny the batsmen find it when the scorers ask for the bowlers name, he bowls slightly on the short side, although is renowned for bowling at least one decent length ball in his spell, he bats and fields with enthusiasm. Born 08/08/1980, and was introduced to the Moose through his acquaintances with naughty moosey 'Kingham & John'.

Player

Charlie Hinchliffe

Almost dispanded from the Moose following a severe lack of runs in 2013, Hinchy very occasionally rediscovered the joy of run scoring in 2014 and developed a penchant for fielding at first slip. Formerly of Eastbourne CC and an Eastbourne College 1st XI skipper, the bright lights of the Moose were enough to haul him away to play proper cricket and also half hang up the catching gauntlets. Known to bowl the waist-high full toss to wicket-taking effect, opposition players were quick to adapt to his stock ball and now resort to biffing it as far as it deserves.

Player

Oscar-Orellana Hyder

The El Salvadorian overseas applies the Latin American swagger to batting, occupying the middle order but unfortunately not the middle for very long. Known for his lusty blows and fantastic long-barrier, Oscar also bowls some terrifically useful leg breaks, harking back to his past as the Anil Kumble of the St Andrews 1st XI.

Alex John

Recruited to form part of the elite Young Moose Academy in 2001, under the expert tutelage of Nick Ogden, Alex has since found the famous Moose spirit very much to his liking. Although his career has gone nowhere but downhill since school, Alex still likes to think of himself is a gifted stroke player, and deceptively quick in the field. Born 22/4/1981.

Player

Steve Macbean

Steve has proved a determined and versatile squad member, not unused to scoring a run-a-ball 50 and for steaming in all day. A key part of Steve's bowling game is his appealing, dramatic enough to sway many an umpire.

Player

Alex Hinchliffe

Perhaps the tallest member of the squad, Big Al has not quite been able to display the promise showed when he had Luke Wells in his pocket during his schoolboy days for Eastbourne College 1st XI and complains of injuries from seemingly non-events. The height of the quick man confuses batters, however not quite as much as his batting efforts.

Jake Judd

One time key starting line up member of the International travelling side "The Forbiden City Walliorz" Jake's contribution to the Moose started in opposition catching Gavin Breeze in the srips for nought. After this devastating blow and successful transfer negotiations Jake now retains honorary member status.

Player

Henry Kingham

Having theoretically a very promising cricket C.V. including Surrey Young Cricketers, Durham University and Lloyds of London, Henry has always known that his place lies within wandering cricket and practises his art of Left arm orthodox bowling and aggressive middle order batting, for a variety of sides including The Yellowhammers, The Bluemantles and The Cryptics.

Along with Alex John he was inducted in the Moosey set-up after a very long day at the Oval by Nick Ogden and has played a handful of games including the highly victorious tour to Saumur in 2002. Henry now joins the young brigade of moose vying to take the club onwards and upwards.

Player

Max McGahan

Max's reliable opening spells have seen him leaned on heavily in recent games and is the side's only genuine cack-handed batsman. Capable of contributing in all facets of the game, Max can also be be famed for humiliating curry houses when the Moose's custom is neglected.

Player

Lewis Munro

Known in his youth as a devilish leg spinner, Louie's potent seam bowling and elegant batting soon came to the fore and he was a key member of the almost-unbeaten Eastbourne College side of 2007. Munners applies subtle charm and a playful sense of humour when doing his favourite thing, socialising, and is often found showing vulnerable young ropers the way home.

Player

Jasper Neame

Jasper emerged as a cricketer of some ability when breaking into the Harrow 1stXI aged just 14 through bowling loopy, sharp turning leg breaks. This saw him play against Eton on a couple of occassions at Lords, and twice finish as the XI's leading wicket taker. A "difference of opinion" with a new coach saw his school cricket career curtailed somewhat early, and since he has represented clubs such as the Wanderers, Butterflies and the Band of Brothers on a regular basis. He now bats agressively and bowls tidy off-breaks, and is far more agile in the field than his appearance might suggest. Off the pitch it is rumoured he enjoys a pint! Born 16/04/81.

Player

Will Morrish

The fiery one of the bowling attack, Will can crank up the pace making it uncomfortable for the opposition or be seen to bowl within the confines of quite a wide V. Capable of severely lusty blows, you will struggle to hear a louder air stroke.

-

Player

Henry Rudkin

A valuable new member to the Moose, Pigeon has contributed with bat, ball and puff in the field and is crucial for team morale. He perhaps places too much trust in his roommates, but anyone could make that mistake. A ton in his debut Moosey season was just reward for other tribulations he experienced in the 2014 season and is a regular on the team sheet.

Player

Rob Thomson

Roto has displayed brutal punishment of numerous bowling attacks in recent times and none more so than during his sublime hundred v the Gelre XI in Amsterdam in 2014. Anything in his slot will be deposited over cow corner, and despite his own remarks to himself when taking his stance, he will not defend a thing. Also in Roto's locker are some very handy Chinamen, known to finish off sides on turning pitches. You will also never see a man with a bigger heart in the field, when perhaps not looking the smoothest across the turf.

Player

Andrew Walley

Andrew, D.O.B 21/11/52, is one of the earliest Moose, joining shortly after the foundation of the club in 1982. Andrew learned his cricket at prep school in sussex. He progressed to inter house cricket at Kings school, Canterbury when he could fit it in between bouts of delinquency. He enjoys to turn out for the Moose as an escape from the wonderful world of computer software. Andrew can sometimes bat a bit, and occasionally bowls and fields, health permitting.

Player

Rob Williams

Rob is at Marlborough and as well as playing for the school and the Moose he has also featured in the England Under 16 XI. He has racked up an official bowling speed of 83 m.p.h.

He is also a very useful batsman and has on occasion single handedly wiped out opposing teams with bat and ball.
