The end of the Bluemantles cricket week was capped off by the traditional fixture against the Moose at the Neville on a stunning day in the Kent sunshine. After losing the toss, the Moose were sent into the field to try to get some response from the wicket that left little for the bowlers to work with. Some brilliant quick bowling from R. Sykes (5 for 40 from 14) quickly turned heads across the ground as the Bluemantles’ top-order were quickly dismantled. This initial barrage allowed the Moose to eventually skittle the hosts for 210 all out with both H. McGahan and J. Murray picking up a brace.

The Moose began their chase by losing M. Murray (4) cheaply in the 4th over which brought tthe introduction of A. Kritzinger (87*) to join N. Hudson (62) at the crease. The pair wasted no time in chasing down the total with some exquisite shots all around the ground, arguably the best of which was a lofted cover drive for 6 which the likeness of which reminded all those watching why A. Kritzinger has earned the nickname of baby-AB. A few short innings from the middle order were enough to see the Moose over the line in the 31st over.

Waldron vs The Moose, Sunday 10th July 2022

The Moose were presented with another challenging fixture at Waldron, having not won for some years. The Moose batted first and posted a total of 216 in 39 overs, hoping to entice the opposition enough to draw out a result. S. Morten (57) was the stand-out performer for the Moose, backed up by solid contributions from A. McDonald (37) and H. McGahan (37).

Waldron began their innings by losing a few wickets for few runs, which got the Moose’s tails up. Unfortunately for the Moose, the Waldron middle order (buoyed by the contributions from the Soucek family) were able to dig in and put up a strong resistance. The game ended in a draw with Waldron reaching 185/5 at the end of play. The match was drawn and the Moose will be looking eagerly to 2023 to try to capture an increasingly elusive win at Waldron.

The Griffin vs the Moose, Sunday 3rd July 2022

Presented with optimal conditions and winning the toss, the Moose elected to bat first, a decision which paid dividends as openers A. McDonald (64) and S. Morten (30) got stuck into the bowling from the get-go. With contributions from A. McNaught (63) and quick-fire innings from P. Kearney (33) the Moose posted a competitive total of 238 in the allotted 35 overs.

After a characteristically delicious tea, the Moose were sent into the field and opted to open for an opening pair with varying pace. H. McGahan (1 for 25 from 6.4 overs) set up the rest of the bowlers by stemming any flow of runs from his end, allowing for S. Macbean (2 for 35 from his 4 overs) and P. Kearney (3 for 57 from his 7 overs) to cash in on some loose shots and put pressure on what was quickly becoming a difficult target. Ultimately the total turned out to be too large an ask and the Moose were able to clean up the tail, bowling out the Griffin for 182.
