Bluemantle's vs The Moose, Friday 8th August 2025
The Moose and Bluemantle's assembled at a sun soaked Nevill Ground on Friday 8th August, 2025 to do battle for the Bairamian Cup in a 40 Over aside game. In addition to the prize of the vaunted Cup - which arrived at the ground in Moosey possession - there was added intrigue as both sides were attempting to wrap-up unbeaten seasons with a victory in Tunbridge Wells.

The Moose won the toss, and elected to bat expecting the batter-friendly surface usually served up at the Nevill. Newcomers Adam Ranson and Zak Webb opened up for the Moose, adding a quickfire 32 for the first wicket inside the first 5 overs. However, with the wicket of Webb for 9, the Bluemantle's applied some good pressure with economical and probing bowling from Baron (2/11 off 8) and Birkbeck (0/68 off 8), exerting more control after switching from pace to off-spin. Charlie Hinchliffe - returning to Moose duty after several years away - batted watchfully against a moving ball and Ranson advanced to 37 before being caught behind off Baron (2/11 off 8). When Hinchliffe fell for 15 off the bowling of Hobden (3/37 off 8) the Moose were 71 for 3 off 18 overs and in need of some acceleration in order to post a competitive total. Thankfully, the middle order rallied, with debutant Theo Rimmer making an enterprising 25 batting at four, and James Howie compiling an expertly paced, counter-attacking 63 including successive maximums off the bowling of Birkbeck. Howie was ably supported by Max McGahan (16) and Martin Semmens, who made a stylish 24 before being trapped LBW by Bluemantle's skipper, George Burrough (28/2 off 4). An all-run 6 off the final delivery of the innings saw the Moose climb to 208, which was slightly below par on a good wicket, but defendable with a strong showing in the field.

Things started well for the Moose, with Hugo Williams (2/37 off 8) striking with the final ball of his first over to remove Jamie Tukuri for 2, thanks to a sharp take at mid-on by Neil Peakall. However, Alex Bryant (78) and Teddy Birkbeck shared an impressive 112 run stand for the 2nd wicket to steady the ship and put Bluemantle's in a commanding position at the half-way point. Despite the lack of penetration, the Moose attack bowled with good control and kept the Bluemantle's run rate in line with the 5.3 runs per over required. Neil Peakall (0/22 off 4) and leg-spinning debutant Kit Rawlins (0/37 off 8) bowled without luck and both could have picked up a deserved wicket or two, but the breakthrough the Moose were looking for was provided in the 23rd over when Moose captain, Harry McGahan (1/46 off 8) removed Birkbeck for a well made 44 and the Moose began to sense an opportunity. Martin Semmens (1/39 off 7) bowled a guileful and miserly spell and was justly rewarded with the wicket of Felix Horsham for 18 in the 28th over, and four overs later the returning Hugo Williams bowled Alex Bryant to leave the Bluemantle's requiring 50 runs off the last 8 overs with 6 wickets in hand. With the game in the balance it was the cat and mouse contest between Collins (33) and Semmens which would define the outcome, and after surviving two catchable chances off Semmes in the slips, Collins took a decisive 17 runs off the 36th over to all but win the game for the Bluemantles. Collins fell the next over to the pace of Webb (1/12 off 3.1), but the damage had been done and Louis Baron (23*) and Charlie Hobden (6*) saw the Bluemantle's home to secure the Bairamian Cup.

Griffin vs The Moose, Sunday 20th July 2025
The Moose arrived at Fletching on the back of a resounding win at Waldron and boasting an unbeaten record in 2025 to date. Heavy overnight rain had left the pitch greener and softer than usual for a hot and dry July, and the Moose had the task of batting first on what looked like a bowler friendly surface with a youthful Griffins bowling attack laying in wait.

Morton and McDonald led the charge and laid a solid foundation for the Moose, reaching the 50 run milestone at a good pace. After McDonald fell for 15 - caught off the bowling of Burwood - Morten was joined at the crease by Moosey debutant (recruited at 2am the morning of!), Ed Monnington. Morten and Monnington enjoyed a fruitful partnership, full of shotmaking and powerful hitting. Morten accelerated quickly to 69 with lusty blows through the leg side, including a rare maximum into the road. Morten was caught in the deep for 69 off Burwood as he looked to put the pedal down, and Monnington compiled a classy 62 before being bowled by Rothery. Max McGahan and Arthur Rossi added 25 and 21 respectively in a useful middle order partnership, including some big sixes from Rossie in the final over of proceedings. This left the Griffin requiring 207 to win from their allotted 30 overs.

Having re-fuelled on the sumptuous tea now synonymous with the Griffin CC, the Moose took to the field. Charles Davies, also making his Moose debut, partnered former Oxford Authentics team mate Harry McGahan to open the bowling. Despite neither bowler being rewarded with a wicket, they bowled with good economy and created a number of chances which on another day may have resulted in wickets. In what is now appearing to be a concerted sabotage campaign, Morten shelled a gift of a chance at gulley to remove the dangerous Fin Tomlinson off the bowling of McGahan, but the leather ended - as it inevitable seems to - on the turf. It was a different McGahan who made the decisive breakthroughs, as Julien replaced Charles Davies and quickly accounted for Ben (caught at cover for 11) swiftly followed by Collard (caught midwicket for 14) and Hannay in successive deliveries, finishing with figures of 3 for 40 off 6. Meanwhile, having ridden some luck early, Tomlinson was starting to find his range and with him at the crease the game looked in the balance. A decisive spell of bowling from Max McGahan turned the game inexorably in the Moose’s favour, as he deceived Tomlinson on 78 in the flight to secure a smart stumping and went on to account for both Burwood brothers and Keenan to return impressive figures of 4 for 37 off 5. He was ably supported by Neal Peakall, who bowled with his customary control and deservedly picked up 2 for 30 off his 6 overs. The Griffin chase, which looked on track for much of the innings, fizzled out and they ended on 189 off their 30 overs.

With this victory by 17 runs over staunch rivals, the Moose march on to Sheffield Park to take on the Armadillos with the unbeaten record still intact. Allez Moose!

Moose CC vs Waldron, Sunday 22nd June 2025
The Moose elected to bat and only managed 122 largely helped by Neil 'Treacle' Peakall with 30 runs and Harry McGahan also 30. The bowlers were under pressure but, thanks to an outstanding performance by left arm spinner James Allen with a 5fer, including a hat-trick, and Harry with figures of 3 for 17 off 7, we bowled Waldron out for 76!

Moose CC vs CCCC (Casablancas), Sunday 8th June 2025
The Moose returned to Barn Elms to take on the Casablancas with a side laden with South Africans. After electing to bat first, the Moose very quickly found themselves in trouble at 21-4 after some trademark loose shots from the top-order. Thankfully, two stalwarts (not South Africans) stepped up to the crease and turned the game on its head. J. Howie contributed 57 off 54 balls and A. MacDonald holed out on 97, avoiding both a jug at the bar and a very well deserved 100. 221 was the total set to chase.
After the break the opening pair of N. Gorrie (debutant) and H. McGahan (stalwart) had the openers guessing with Gorrie earning his first Moose wicket with only his second ball. The bowlers all contributed well and managed to consistently take wickets whilst giving away enough runs to keep the game tight throughout. Ultimately the Casablancas finished their allotted overs for 207, earning the Moose a well contested and thoroughly enjoyable victory.
Notable figures included:
McGahan 27-2 (7)
Gorrie 46-3 (6)
J. Murray 28-3 (6)

Moose Earn Winning Draw in Debutant-Fuelled Display
The Moose delivered a dominant all-round performance on Sunday, settling for a winning draw after falling just two wickets short of victory despite a fierce bowling effort.
Debutant Nathan Roberts announced himself in style with a fluent 60 off 48 balls, laying a solid foundation for the innings. He was backed up brilliantly by the in-form Ed Chrimes, who continued his sensational form for the Moose with a classy 72, keeping the scoreboard ticking at pace. Support from Hands, MacDonald, and Howie saw the Moose post an imposing total.
With the ball, debutant Orlando Soucek lit up the HAC with a superb spell of 4-23 off 9, dismantling the top order with pace and accuracy. Harry McGahan bowled with fire late on, keeping the pressure on with 12 testing overs, but the Moose were ultimately denied the final breakthrough by some gutsy lower-order resistance.
While the win eluded them, the Moose walked away with heads high after a commanding display full of promise—especially from the new boys.

Moose CC vs Bluemantle's CC, 2024
On Friday 9th August, the Moose CC and Bluemantle's CC assembled under gloriously sunny skies to contest the Bairamian Cup at the Nevill Ground.

Having lost the toss and been sent out to field, it was the Moose who made early inroads on a firm and true pitch which had all the hallmarks of a class Nevill wicket. Hugo Williams - making his Moose debut - produced excellent shape and control from the bottom end and was rewarded by picking up the Bluemantle's opener and number 3 bat, the latter to a sharp grab at first slip by fellow debutant, James Beeny. At the other end, Fin Tomlinson bowled with aggression and extracted movement through the air and off the pitch to beat the bat on a number of occasions and picking up the Bluemantle's skipper with an excellent caught-and-bowled effort.
The early efforts of Williams and Tomlinson reduced the Bluemantle's to 13 for 3, but Alex Collins and Ed Monnington negotiated the attacking leg-spin of Patrick Kearney and the controlled off-spin of James Howie (going for just 26 runs from his 7 overs) to steady the ship for the home side. Both batters amassed fine half-centuries and put on 101 together, parting ways when Alex Collins was stumped off the wiley off-spin of Tom Ogden, leaving the Bluemantle's at 114 for 3 after 21 overs. Some valuable counter-attacking runs from the Bluemantle's middle-order and regular wickets from the Moose kept the game largely in the balance, with the Bluemantle's scoring 190 from their 35 overs.
Pursuing the target of 191, the Moose chase began well, with debutant James Beeny getting off the mark in fine style by hitting his first ball for 4 through mid-on. Assisted by Tom Ogden at the top of the order, the Moose openers put on a breezy 36 for the first wicket before James Beeney fell to Charlie Hobden's busy off-spin. The Moose faltered slightly after the loss of the first wicket, with Adrian Kritzinger (6), Tom Ogden (23) and Alex McDonald (10) all falling in relatively short order to reduce the Moose to 75 for 4. However, the Bluemantle's advances were thwarted by a composed and stylish 45 not-out from debutant Jason Hong, ably supported by Moose stalwart Stuart Morten (38) and some late-order power-hitting from Fin Tomlinson (22 from 12 deliveries). The Moose reached the target of 191 in the 32nd over with 3 wickets in hand to regain the Bairamian Cup.
